First of all, I am really sorry for the delay, as of course I have promised you before that I would post the reviews last 3 weeks. But due to the busyness I had, (exams and what not), I had to skip the promise. Sorry again.
But enough of that, today I’m gonna write something about Dragon Age 2. We all have been waiting for this Title release and last month, Malaysia had been given a chance to have the opportunity to get me one of the copy. To say the least, thank you. Because I just got the most awesome game ever made in BioWare’s RPG franchise. The graphic detail, the user interfaces, the gameplay, man, I got owned!! All I can say is, it’s more fun and more blood.
Our trusted friend, Varric the liar... |
So, none like the previous Dragon Age, Dragon Age 2 started the plot through a story from a man named Varric who is a dwarf and whom later is your dear trusted friend. The starting of this story is that Varric is captured by a Chantry Seeker named Cassandra to be interrogated to find the Champion of Kirkwall which, unknowingly, it’s us who play as the person named Hawke -- be a male or female human, a mage, rouge, or warrior. In the midst of that, the world was like in Dragon Age Origins where Darkspawn and the good are at war. Well, on to that part, we still don’t know why the hell we are related to why the Seeker of the Chantry is searching for us. But of all of this, we should know that we create a major involvement in the world of Dragon Age Universe. So here’s Varric tell us the story about the Champion which we create the decisions to what happens next. See the flow?
Choose either Hawke of being a male or a female human -- whether a mage, warrior or a rouge. |
Varric gives and tell the tale to Cassandra from the start to finish, with a bit of water-color cutscenes between each new beginning where it adds an interesting visual element to Varric’s clever storytelling. The level of the graphic detail is wonderful and adds some punch to the storyline of the game. It’s wonderful how BioWare accomplished on how it do things these days. Because the review in IGN says ; ‘Most role-playing games depict a prevailing evil presence that only your hero can defeat after an epic journey across the world.’ But Dragon Age 2 is different in a way, I mean entirely cause your story is based on what happens in the city of Kirkwall or around it. There’s no epic adventure where you go slaying big freaking monsters across the globe, there’s only Kirkwall and everything that surrounds you. But BioWare had proven their strength in the storyline. About Hawke’s past, present and future. It’s a huge impact on the character what makes this game lives throughout the time. . As of Origins, all of the other functions in Dragon Age 2 are about the same. So I suggest you should just play until the ending pops up.
A rouge Hawke preparing for battle. |
There’s another surprise, in Dragon Age 2, Hawke can talk!! I mean, all we get in Dragon Age Origins is the silent Hero of Ferelden, this is a good improvement cause I just love when we (the main character) can talk like in Mass Effect. BioWare give us the rights to choose some of the option, and yes, just like Mass Effect, where the Hawke can speak whatever option we want him/her talk to.
Hawke can be aggressive, peaceful, sarcastic, romantic etc., but there are almost too many varying icons to represent all the different feelings you can express. Who would assume that a purple gem would mean charming? If you don't check out the manual, you may get confused by odd choices like that. A nice addition is that Hawke will spout off different one-liners in cutscenes that you have no control over depending on your conversation tendencies. It's a cool feature, as it really makes your character seem like a unique individual. It’s amazing how BioWare change one thing to the other.
Dragon Age 2 is a beautiful game, especially on the PC. It’s a fun game and a lot of blood to play with. None of the other really matters anymore, because for me the game is quite good and relaxing or some may say tiring if they didn’t shut their eyes off. Haha.
Can you guess who is this? Let me give you a hint, Witch of the Wilds? Ring any bells? |
I’m not gonna spoil on the ending, but I can only tell you this though, the ending is a start of another bigger things. Hmm, I spoiled it, did I? Well, no matter, just remember this, Hawke’s story is important for the Dragon Age Canon that BioWare is planning to create soon. So beware. Get it?
